Summary :
I LIVE YOU is a personal videotape about identity and memory. The video deals with my grandparents' life and death, and with the Holocaust. But this work also deals with the way I attempt to define my identity in an era of change and confusion. The subject, my grandparents and myself, produces a special kind of memory and remembrance. The video is built on associations between images, between images and words, images and sounds. There are several layers and generations of images and sounds, so as to create several levels of meaning. The video attempts to further define the word "generation", both in the vocabulary of everyday life and in the technical vocabulary of video. The english version of I LIVE YOU was made possible thanks to the financial support of "Digitale 98" and of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
