Summary :
NIZAO BEIJING tells of the people who exercise every morning in the public parks of Beijing. They go there to relax in various ways : massage, stretching, songs, jumps, walking backwards... This activity is rather disconcerting and makes us think of a kind of mental hospital. Zhao LIANG analyzes this population by drawing a parallel with caged animals, and takes us from hospital to prison. What induces these people over fifty to make these gestures ? Zhao LIANG provides the beginning of an answer by showing images of the montage of the film itself, either accelerated or in slow motion. He shows how images, like people, can be manipulated.
