Summary :
The eighth and last exhibition by the impressionists took place in March 1886. A large painting disrupted the laws of painting: with “Un après-midi à la Grande Jatte”, pointillism was born. Under the appearant triviality of the topic, a number of mysteries are to be found. One has to know the history behind it to understand some hints, its genesis, and the painter’s technique can now be dissected in laboratories: the enigmas of the perspective, the hidden rebus are partly solved. Seurat died in1891.
