Summary :
Son of the filmmaker Max Ophuls, Marcel Ophuls is a director both known and unknown. In his house of Lucq de Bearn, “at the bottom of the mountains that have saved his life”, Marcel Ophuls has accepted to attend the screening of some extracts of four of his films: “Le chagrin et la pitié”, “The memory of justice”, “Hôtel Terminus” et “Veillées d’armes”. Talking about his films, he will maybe draw “his method discourse” from them. Calling out to witnesses and protagonists, the director does not only make them talk about past facts, he also makes them judge the acts or circumstances made at that time. The screen becomes a public space where past and present visions, together with spectators and interviewees’ judgments confront. Instead of just watching passing the trains of History, the films of Marcel Ophuls encourage us to judge our behaviours.
