Summary :
Gustave Caillebotte died young. He was not 46 yet: is that the reason why he is a little forgotten today? Maybe, but isn’t it likely that his friends Degas, Manet, Monet or Renoir overshadowed him too? However, he was a great painter and patron of the arts. The painter was fascinated by the cities, perspectives, gardens, and had a way to look at things that is comparable to that of a contemporary cinema director. And he knew more than anybody else how to play with optical illusions. He was a patron of the arts because he had unfailingly good taste and a solid fortune, and he bought a lot, his collection including some of the most innovative masterpieces of the impressionist movement.
