The name of the original group - The Pre-Raphaelites Brotherhood - was itself a declaration of war on existing artistic tenets. It was founded in September 1848 - a year of revolution alI over Europe when the people overthrew their kings and countries attempted to leave empires. A wind of liberty and independance blew everywhere.
