Summary :
This film is part of a series called “Birthplaces of creation”. Through the presentation of a work of art, each episode explores a place that gave birth to a major artistic or cultural movement, at a precise moment in history.
In the basilica that was built to house the remains of Saint Francis, in his native town of Assisi, in the center of Italy, various artists meet and follow one another in the creation of the paintings and frescoes that adorn the monument. Cimabue, Giotto, Pietro Lorenzetti and Simone Martini are laying the foundations of a new art that reveals the humanistic and “Franciscan” upheaval operating in ideas, perceptions and world representations at the end of the Middle Ages.
